71. Every Business Needs…

1 – a target market

A target market is a particular group of consumers to which a project or service is aimed. Real textbook.

You need to niche down and find a target market. You can’t be talking to the masses. Instead, hone in on who your target is. You need to know who you’re speaking to!

Think about it: what are their problems, what makes them tick, what are they excited about, why do they need whatever you offer?

Every Business Needs...

We go through phases in our business where we feel like everybody needs to hire us, but that is not our goal.

Our goal is ONLY our target market.

When we are focused on our target market, we’re less offended when somebody goes elsewhere because we know they are not our target audience. When we focus on attracting people who fit our product and brand, we’re going to be TONS more confident in our business.

When you’re marketing to everyone, you’re marketing to no one.

A couple years ago I joined a MLM company called Maskcara (it’s now called Seint). When I joined I knew I was not a makeup person but I felt like it was an opportunity for busy moms to do makeup easily without needing experience or know-how. I knew that my target market was going to be the busy mom that didn’t know makeup and needed a quick, easy routine. And those were the customers I got.

I wasn’t doing 5-hour tutorials or having people come over to do their makeup with five different brushes and 12 different steps like everyone else. I was doing one-minute tutorials, building simple compacts for their whole face and honing in on the busy-mom problems.

My target market now on the podcast are moms in business that are stretched thin and trying to do the best they can. They’re running a business and taking care of their family simultaneously. They need systems, balance, inspiration, strategy, motivation and accountability. And that’s who I am speaking to.

Yes. There are people on here that are not moms Yes. There are people on here that are not business owners. But I know that the majority of people that I can help the most with what I offer are moms in business so I focus on them.

Does that mean that other people won’t take my courses or coaching? No. But at the same time, I cannot speak to everyone at the same time. The more I hone in on my target market, the better my content will be.

Write out what your target market looks like and be SO specific. Create an avatar for your business.

  • What’s their work situation?
  • What’s their financial status?
  • How do they spend family time?
  • How do they spend their regular time?
  • What would they rather spend their time doing?
  • Who do they follow on Insta?
  • What are they afraid of?
  • What motivates them?
  • What do they dream of?
  • What does success look like to them?
  • Where are they on the path right now?
  • How do they feel right now?

2 – a problem to solve

  • What is stopping your target market from being successful?
  • What are their pain points?
  • What solutions have they tried?
  • What information are they missing?
  • What lies are they believing?
  • How can you fix those problems?

3 – solutions

  • How can you solve your target audience’s problems?
  • What do people need from you?
  • What do you offer?
  • What makes you the expert?
  • Why is this info valuable?
  • Why should they care?
  • Why are you unique?
  • Why should they learn from you?
  • How are you similar to them?

4 – an easy funnel to guide target client from problems to solutions

Now we have our target market (the problems and solutions), we need that funnel. An funnel includes an opt-in, an email sequence, a freebie and an offering.

This is what every business needs that most businesses don’t have!

This is what I love most about coaching, helping women set up this funnel because it leads to automatic sales all the time. You can be skiing with kids while people are checking out in your funnel and it’s crazy how many people don’t have it!

Every Business Needs...

It’s not just about money here. Remember the goal is to solve problems.

When we solve problems, we put value into the world. That is the goal. When thinking about your funnel, don’t just think about how you can make the biggest buck. Think about how you can solve problems.
